  • Description:

    This expendable scholarship fund makes available up to $3,000 scholarships to selected McKendree students. Great Expectations Foundation is a 501(c)(3) that was founded in 2011 by Larry and Sharon Carrico. Their mission is to provide funding for organizations within Rent One and RNR Midwest communities that focus on children’s education, fitness, and wellness, along with their emotional and spiritual development. In 2022 to further the reach in their communities they opened grant opportunities to all 501(c)(3) organizations located in communities near the stores. 

    Eligibility and Criteria:

    1. Be a full-time undergraduate student accepted and registered for classes at McKendree University, pursuing any program of study.

    2. Students must have graduated high school or have received homeschooling in a County where a Rent One or RNR Express store operates.
    Such counties include:
    Arkansas: Craighead, Cross, Greene, Jackson, Independence, Lawrence, Mississippi, Poinsett, Pulaski, Randolph, Searcy, or Sebastian.
    Illinois: Adams, Christian, Clay, Clinton, Coles, Crawford, Franklin, Jefferson, Jersey, Lawrence, Logan, Macon, Madison, Marion, Massac, Montgomery, Morgan, Peoria, Perry, Randolph, Richland, Saline, Sangamon, St. Clair, Union, Wabash, Wayne, White, or Williamson.
    Indiana: Knox, Posey, or Vanderburgh.
    Kansas: Saline or Sedgwick
    Kentucky: Calloway, Daviess, Graves, Henderson, Hopkins, or McCracken.
    Missouri: Buchanan, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Crawford, Dent, Dunklin, Franklin, Howell, Jackson, Macon, Marion, North Madrid, Pemiscot, Pulaski, Randolph, Scott, St. Charles, St. Louis, or Stoddard.
    Oklahoma: Comanche, Muskogee, Oklahoma, or Tulsa.
    Tennessee: Carroll, Dyer, Gibson, Haywood, Henderson, or Madison.

    3. Must have a FAFSA for the upcoming academic year on file with McKendree. (You can check with the financial aid office at (618) 537-6827 to confirm the FAFSA was received.)

    4. Students who qualified for the scholarship in the previous year shall be given preference for the following year provided they maintain a 3.0 grade point average.

    5. Must submit a one-page personal and professional reflection demonstrating the student’s motivation for higher education and the impact they wish to make on their community with their degree.

    6. Scholarship is only renewable one time and must be in consecutive years.

     

    Payment Schedule:

    The tuition scholarship may be issued in August or January depending on available funds.
